The 600 De La Gauchetière project marks a new era in urban construction. A true showcase of cutting-edge technical solutions and revolutionary practices, this worksite made history with the world’s first integration of the Upbrella sheltered construction system in a façade restoration project. Complementing this innovation were the first-ever use of Urban Umbrella scaffolding in Canada—as elegant as they are effective—the aerial use of space via an elevated logistics platform, the adoption of numerous LEAN construction principles, and a series of measures aimed at reducing nuisances and minimizing encroachment on public space.
This one-of-a-kind achievement fully reflects JCB Construction Canada's commitment to addressing the contemporary challenges of the construction industry, while embracing sustainable, environmentally responsible practices.
“Innovation is truly at the heart of our practices. We firmly believe that the construction industry is ready to revolutionize the way it operates—to rethink its methods in order to integrate the best global practices,” says Alexandre-Stéphane Boucher, President and CEO of JCB Construction Canada. “We are proud to be part of a team that doesn’t just follow the industry—it helps shape it,” he adds.
This success builds on last year’s victory, when the company won the Builder of Excellence category at the Prix Construire awards presented by the Quebec Construction Association. Once again, it underscores JCB Construction Canada’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in construction, while promoting innovative practices across the board.
“Winning two years in a row is a tremendous source of pride, but also irrefutable proof that our drive to innovate is no accident—it’s part of our corporate culture,” says Pascal Fortin, Vice President, Field Operations.
This project is the result of close collaboration with the client, Kevric Real Estate, and the many subcontractors involved. Its success is largely due to the meticulous attention given to the preconstruction phase, where every issue was anticipated, every constraint analyzed, and every solution carefully considered. It is this thorough upstream work that made for such a smooth and efficient execution.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see our ideas translated into real-world recognition. Innovation is what keeps us moving forward—together,” concludes Denis Massey, Vice President, Finance.
