Co P Fire Station No2 008

Fire Station No2 at Peterborough

A fiery mandate

Construction of a new fire station built to the Canada Green Building Council's carbon-neutral standards. The new facility includes, among other features, two truck bays, maneuvering and storage areas, as well as living spaces that comprise offices, a rest area, and training rooms, including zones dedicated to pump and rescue operations training. Designed and built to be certified as both zero-carbon and zero-energy, the new station—designed by Unity Design—features a mass timber structure that traps carbon emissions, along with a high-performance building envelope. In addition, the expansive windows allow for abundant natural light, while the high-performance garage doors will significantly reduce heat loss.
