HP SitePrint : JCB Construction Canada Among the First in Quebec to Adopt the Revolutionary Layout Printing Robot

3 min.

In a construction industry where precision and efficiency are non-negotiable requirements, is positioning itself at the forefront by integrating the HP SitePrint layout printing robot into its job sites. This technology, still not widely used in Quebec, was deployed for the first time by on the expansion project of the pharmaceutical plant in Boucherville.

What is HP SitePrint?

The HP SitePrint is an autonomous layout robot designed specifically for construction sites. Unlike traditional manual marking methods, this device prints directly onto the floor (with millimetre-level precision) all the information required to coordinate the work: construction axes, room names, sprinkler head locations, ventilation duct layouts, plumbing networks, fire protection systems, and much more.

In practical terms, coordinated plans prepared upstream in a BIM (Building Information Modeling) environment are transferred directly to the robot, which reproduces them accurately on the concrete slab. The result is a site where every trade benefits from a clear, precise, and shared visual reference.

Why was the Delpharm project the ideal use case?

JCB is currently carrying out the expansion of the Delpharm pharmaceutical plant in Boucherville, the largest injectable drug manufacturing facility in Canada. This facility plays a strategic role in the supply of essential medications used in surgeries and intensive care, producing on its own 20 of the 100 drugs considered critical by the Canadian healthcare system.

The importance of this project is undeniable. However, its execution presents an exceptional level of complexity due to the very high density of mechanical systems to be integrated. In a confined space, teams must coordinate a multitude of technical networks (plumbing, ventilation, sprinklers, fire protection) with virtually zero tolerance for error, given the strict regulatory requirements of the pharmaceutical industry.

In this context, the use of the HP SitePrint robot has emerged as a particularly relevant solution. By enabling precise and complete layout of all systems directly on the floor from the very beginning of the work, this technology provides the site team with unparalleled visibility over upcoming installations. Concretely, it allows teams to:

  • Anticipate installation conflicts even before construction begins;
  • Provide every subcontractor with a shared and reliable reference point;
  • Significantly reduce rework and costly on-site errors;
  • Instantly assess whether equipment will properly integrate into the final system design.

For a project where every centimetre matters and where precision is directly tied to the future performance of the installation, HP SitePrint is a concrete lever for productivity, quality, and risk control.

Concrete benefits of the HP SitePrint layout robot

In a construction environment where precision, coordination, and speed of execution have become critical challenges, the HP SitePrint layout robot stands out as a major technological advancement offering a series of undeniable benefits:

Significant time savings

Manual layout is a long, tedious process and often a source of inaccuracies. With HP SitePrint, this work is automated and completed in a fraction of the usual time. All trades therefore benefit from a faster and better-structured project start.

Unmatched precision

The robot operates with an extremely low margin of error, which is essential on projects where the density of installations leaves no room for approximation. Every layout mark faithfully reflects data from the BIM digital model.

Stronger coordination between trades

By displaying all coordinated systems directly on the slab, HP SitePrint creates a shared language among all site stakeholders. Electricians, plumbers, piping mechanics, and sprinkler installers can clearly see where their work fits in relation to others—even before installation begins.

A future-forward technology for construction sites

HP SitePrint is more than just a tool: it symbolizes a new way of building, where digital data and physical construction reality become one. In a context of growing skilled labour shortages and increasing pressure on costs and timelines, technologies such as the HP SitePrint layout robot offer a concrete and effective response to the industry’s challenges.
